VYAL "Glimpse" Painting
VYAL "Power Lines" Painting. 2012, 14"x14" spray paint on wood. 2015
Vyal Reyes began his career as an artist in 1990, when he dedicated himself to using spray paint as his "weapon of choice" to create art. A self taught artist , Vyals work quickly grabbed the attention of fellow graffiti artists as well as gallery's in Los Angeles and around the globe . This has allowed Vyal to be a continuos and important presence in the street art/ graffiti art movement in Los Angeles for over 20 years. Although his work has evolved it is still recognizable as his own, with bright colors and refined shading and complex yet simple approaches to his medium and surfaces. His trademark "eyes" always find a way into his pieces . At times Vyal includes these eyes in his work as an spiritual offering and "praise" to one of his most cherished senses. "WHAT IS AN ARTIST WITHOUT HIS EYES?". It is this type of work and imagery that has also allowed Vyal to work with companies like LEXUS, REDBULL, CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN , etc. as well as his work included in collections such as The Getty, MOCA, and the Neiman Marcus private collection. Activist minded Vyal gives back to his community as much as possible by donating art and time to non profits and schools around LOS ANGELES. When he is not painting murals or canvases Vyal teaches aerosol art classes to youth and adults alike at SELF HELP GRAPHICS in Boyle Heights CA. , where he has been an artist in residence since 2011.
